Today at Gamescom, Blizzard announced some details surrounding the first expansion for Diablo 3. First off, there is a new bad guy running amok in the world of Sanctuary, and his name is Malthael, the fallen Archangel of Wisdom.
Like the rest of the bad guys in the Diablo universe, he, too, has been corrupted and seduced by the power of the Black Soulstone. Only this time, Malthael seems to be the greatest war monger of them all. He is out to reap the souls of both humans and demons, to increase the power of his death angel army.
Tyrael tried to lock the Black Soulstone away for good…out of sight where no demon, mortal or angel would find it, but he didn’t cover his tracks well enough I suppose.
So in order to aid in the fight against this new figurehead of unimaginable evil, Blizzard has introduced a new character of pure righteousness…The Crusader, which at first glance, appears to be Diablo 3’s Paladin class, more or less.
New Class: The Crusader
We’ll have more info on this guy later, but here’s a sneak peak of him putting the hurt on some evil…

In addition to the new class, the level cap is being raised to 70, which will also introduce a host of new class skills and abilities. You’ll also see a bunch of new items added to the game, a slew of new monsters to fight, new places to explore and a bunch of other juicy content.
Also…Transmogrification is coming to Diablo 3, so players will have the ability to fully customize the look of their gear.
More details to follow, but here’s a look at the official Reaper of Souls trailer. This Malthael guy has some real issues for sure.
