My first impression of the beta

October 9, 2011 By Craig Leave a Comment

Diablo 3 Beta Invitation & testing

In case my previous post wasn’t perfectly clear… I received an invitation to the Diablo 3 Beta a few days ago. ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve only scratched the surface of all that I intend to do, but I did roll one character – a Barbarian, of course – and I did finish the beta.

I’ve logged in about two hours time thus far, and my four year old son (who I actually let play first – even before I had a chance) has logged about an hour on his female barb. I know… model parenting, right… letting my 4 year old play Diablo 3… What can I say, he’s my son, so he’s exposed to a lot of this stuff. He plays Club Penguin sometimes too, so that offsets things a bit. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, back to the topic at hand…

Alright, so my first impression of Diablo 3 from my brief experience so far in the beta… I love it!!! Diablo 3 is amazing..!

It has the same game play and ‘feel’ of Diablo II, but with the luxurious addition of today’s gaming technology, along with many enhancements and conveniences which really add to the overall playability. Blizz has done a bang-up job of delivering a hearty dose of concentrated fun with Diablo 3. Diablo 3 is undeniably more involved and sophisticated than its predecessors, while being more streamlined and intuitive — allowing for a very uncluttered and fast-paced, action-packed gaming experience.

Additions like the Cauldron of Jordan, Nephalem Cube, the Scrolls of Companion, the Portal Stone item-thingy – which by the way has a really awesome animation… all of that stuff adds so much to the overall experience. Not having to fuss over inventory is such a huge plus, I cannot even begin to tell you. In essence, they minimized or eliminated a lot of the tedious things that detract from what’s really important — kicking some demon ass.

I know I’m an optimist, but Diablo 3 is is like taking an already amazingly fun game, i.e., Diablo 2, then spending the past decade figuring out how to make it ‘near-perfect’.

Much, much more to come…
