Someone asked a few questions in regards to some of the core mechanics in Diablo 3. These being: resource system updates, whether health and mana globes still looked the same in the UI; will health, mana and rejuv pots make a return, as well as some character build questions concerning skills, talets, etc…
Here’s the official question(s):
Have there been any updates in regards to health, mana and it’s cousins…Ie. Fury
Have there been any changes to health/mana orbs?
Any updates on health/mana potions?
Also, have there been any changes to the player skills system? I.e. the way we learn new skills and shape our characters.
Surprisingly enough, Bashiok tackled each one of them – offering up what little information he could. This is what he had to say:

Fury is going through some further iteration. The orb system wasn’t really working out like we had hoped and was creating some roadblocks. The other resource systems, nothing really to share. The wizard instability is reworked as well. More about all those at BlizzCon.

No mana globes. Health globes, they’ve changed appearance since last everyone saw, and we’ll probably get some info out about those before BlizzCon.

No? They’re still around.

Yeah, I mean, there’s no real trees any more. Kind of. But this is something we’re not talking about until BlizzCon. You’ll see it then. It sort of streamlines the tree system, but there’s still a skill tree there technically if you wanted to map it out… and there’s… other stuff, I’ll stop there, it’s getting confusing. (Source)
Well, that’s not too bad… he threw out a couple of bones. We know now that mana globes will be removed from the UI entirely, and that there will be some serious resource system announcements and demos at BlizzCon.
The new build system is going to be quite interesting as well. One thing I really hope they implement in Diablo 3 is a system which allows re-specializations – if this is needed, of course. One thing that always bothered me about Diablo II, was the fact that once your talent points were spent, you could never explore other builds unless you re-rolled. And heaven forbid you accidentally flub a talent point placement…
