Diablo 3 will be introducing an amazing new inventory system known as the Shared Stash. Rather than have one item chest that’s unique to each character, Diablo 3 players will have access to an expandable Shared Stash that will be usable by all characters on one account.
Those of you who played Diablo 2 know what a hassle it was to mule items between characters… not to mention the panic and frustration that could arise if some unfortunate event occurred during the transfer process. Plus, there was always the arduous task of managing your inventory across multiple characters, along with having to constantly try and maximize inventory space via the Tetris system. I used to go nuts trying to remember which character had what item, as I’d log in and out of a PW protected mule game on battle.net, with my multiple characters.
Once I got my girlfriend (now wife) playing the game, she decided to create an item spreadsheet for herself, allowing for precise inventory management. I was so impressed with what she’d done that I asked her to plug my stockpile into a spreadsheet as well. She did, and that’s just one of the many reasons why I married her. ๐
At any rate… In Diablo 3, transferring items from one character to another will be a snap. Players will have one common stash in which all items can be placed – which are not needed or usable by the character that acquired them. So, if you happen to loot an awesome crossbow while out adventuring with your Wizard, just throw it into the Shared Stash and grab it out next time you log in with your Demon Hunter.
The Shared Stash will always be in the major town at the start of each act.
The Shared Stash is Expandable
Players begin the game with only one tab and a limited number of empty item slots in their Shared Stash, but players can increase their Shared Stash storage space over time. The Shared Stash will have up to five available tabs, with a maximum of 70 item slots in each tab, allowing for a maximum of 350 item slots in the Shared Stash! These additional tabs and item slots will be purchased with gold.
Community Gold
Rather than keeping gold on your character or throwing it in your stash to share with other characters, gold will be a pooled resource – available instantly to all characters on one account. Gold can be acquired and spent just the same by any character. This is truly an amazing upgrade to game play, as it removes even more of the inventory micro-management, leaving more time for slaughtering bad guys.
Hard Core Shared Stash
Hard Core players will be able to share a stash between various hard core characters on their account, but the stash will be exclusive to just the hard core characters. The Shared Stash will not be accessible by both regular and hard core characters. Hence, players that are choosing to create a hard core toon may want to have a few of them in order to take advantage of the Shared Stash system for their hard core characters as well.
