Making Money After the Launch of Diablo 3

May 1, 2012 By Craig Leave a Comment

Markco, the creator of the Diablo 3 Gold Secrets Guide, has posed a few questions to the D3 community…

What will you choose to focus on in order to make money in Diablo 3? Why will you choose to not focus on other areas?

I will probably be doing a little of everything in order to increase my character’s wealth in the coming weeks and months. I don’t foresee myself spending much time “playing the auction house” – at least for awhile – but I will likely be doing a lot of other things to help fund my campaigns.

Farming Items and Gold

GoldmemberI will no doubt be doing both of these things…often and with vigor. While I do look forward to charging my way to level 60, I am not going to treat it as a race. I’ve been waiting a very long time for this game, and I want to really sink my teeth into the whole experience as I level. Rushing to 60 is not on my agenda.

My plan will be to don a decent amount of magic find, while still feeling like I have some ass-kicking prowess. More than likely, I’ll try to keep a full magic find set on me (both equipped and unequipped pieces), which I’ll use for specific runs – rather than all of the time. I’ll want to tear through new content with most of my best stuff – then retread certain areas with a comfortable level of MF gear.

I want to have fun as I level, so I don’t intend to nerf myself too much. However, once I encounter some good farm areas – it’s on until I’ve had enough and feel the need to move on.

I am all about the drops, so I’ll mostly be going after magic items initially, although I’ll most certainly be snatching up all of the precious gold that drops as well. I just don’t intend to be sporting as much increased gold gear as I do magic find gear.

Leveling the Blacksmith

This will be the main by-product and primary motivation for my farming efforts (apart from just killing bad guys). My plan will be to continually gather up magic gear to allow for tons of salvaging mats, while also amassing enough gold to get my Blacksmith his training. Fueling the Blacksmith’s trade will require lots of demon slaying (a most enjoyable agenda) and it will keep me outfitted in decent gear – a total win-win situation. Not to mention, occasionally he’s going to produce some items with highly desirable stats which I’ll be able to sell for big bucks on one of the auction houses.

Leveling my Blacksmith will be a main focus in terms of progression and money-making.

Leveling the Jeweler

I probably won’t be leaning on my Jeweler much as a source for money-making. Chances are I’ll be hoarding most of my gems early on. I’ll level him as needed – to keep pace with my Blacksmith – but I’ll probably be using my BS more so for flipping artisan wares on the auction houses. However…it’s possible I won’t be playing a caster class for awhile, so I may cash in some of my caster-friendly gems for a little D3 cheddar.

We don’t know too much about the Jeweler at this point, but I’m guessing his craft is a much more predictable one than the Blacksmith’s. When socketing and combining gems, I’m assuming we’ll know exactly what we’ll be getting, where as with the Blacksmith and his random-stat-crafting…that’s a gamble with some huge profit potential.

Playing the Auction House

As I’d mentioned, I probably won’t be doing too much of this, but I could be wrong. Far and above money-making will be my desire to kill hellspawn…sitting in front of the auction house window does not cut it for me. I will likely check it for a few minutes before logging off at night, but it’s doubtful I’ll be too engaged by it.

RMAH

It’s possible I may buy something off of here to enhance my enjoyment of the game, but I really don’t intend to try and make any real money off of the RMAH. If anything, the RMAH is going to cost me money – not help me make any.

Killing is my Business

My whole aim will be to chop down bad guys in order to fill my pockets, with valuable crafted gear and the occasional premium salvaged mats earning me some gold off of the auction house. I don’t have any plans to become a D3 banker or investor — I want to kill stuff. ๐Ÿ™‚
