Blizzard has just announced on their D3 Community Site that PayPal will be the 3rd party payment processor for the Diablo 3 Auction House system. They also stated that PayPal funds will be added as another form of acceptable payment on Battle.net.
This is great news! I’ve often wished that Blizzard would accept PayPal as a form of payment for subscription based services like WoW, as well as for items in their Blizzard store. It’s just so damned convenient!
This agreement should create a huge financial boon for PayPal’s parent company eBay, since many players will probably start actively selling on there in an effort to keep their PayPal accounts filled up. ๐
As a reminder to all of the hard core players out there… do note that the ‘real world currency’ based auction house system will not be available to hard core characters. Only normal mode players will be able to benefit from this new Blizzard / PayPal partnership, as far as the auction house is concerned.
Well it was a 99.999% obvious announce, to be honest. That said, there are horrible stories about PayPal. I hope it will work as intended, really. When real money is involved… things can take a dark path.
