Those of you who played Diablo 2 may have been a victim of character expiration at one time or another. Well, happily, this will not be a problem in Diablo 3. Characters in Diablo 3 will continue to exist until deleted.
From the Official Diablo 3 Forums…
In d2 your characters expire after 90 days of not playing them (or 10 days if recently created). Will it be like this in diablo 3? I personally hated this, and was sometimes a reason for not playing the game.
I can’t say I’m surprised by this, but it’s still good to receive an actual confirmation.
Back when I was playing Diablo 2, there was a period of a few months where I took a break from playing. Once the itch returned, I was devastated to see that all of my beloved and geared characters were no longer playable — they had all expired. I was aware that they’d had that policy in place, but the game was out of my mind for a few months and I just completely spaced it.
Anyway…it’s nice to know that characters in Diablo 3 will be around as long as we want them to be. For one, I’m getting tired of having all of my characters wiped each time a new beta build rolls out. I can’t wait to start tearing through Sanctuary on a character that I’ll be playing for years to come. ๐
