Vanishing Dye Usable on Legendary Items in Patch 1.0.7

January 19, 2013 By Craig 1 Comment

Diablo 3 Vanishing DyeNow that Legendary weapons have been buffed to the point where they’ve become end-game viable, the question stands…“will we ever be able to dye our Legendaries..?”

Patch 1.0.7 will take a small step in that direction by allowing players to apply Vanishing Dye to gear that will accept it*, but that’s all we’re getting in this next patch.

*Vanishing Dye can be applied to items in the following slots: Head, Shoulders, Hands, Torso, Legs and Feet.

The following is a recent reply from a blue on the topic of allowing dye on Legendaries…

Quote from Vaeflare

We’re working on getting Vanishing Dyes for Legendary items into 1.0.7. We intend for them to have the same slot restrictions as dyes traditionally have, so you’ll be able to use Vanishing Dye on say, your Legendary shoulders or helmet, but not items such as your weapons.

We hope this change will be available for testing on the PTR in a future build, but that may not possible. We’ll keep you updated. 🙂

Alright, so it sounds like Blizzard will be working very hard to allow players to use Vanishing Dye on Legendary items in Patch 1.0.7, but what about the rest of the dyes..?

Here’s more on that…

Quote from Vaeflare

We’re definitely working on making all dyes work for Legendary items. It’s not a quick-fix, though; as Fearophobias surmised, our artists actually need to go back and redo the textures on all the Legendaries in order to make them dye-compatible.

Since we know this process will take some time, we wanted to make sure that players could at least use Vanishing Dye for now (it was the most-requested dye for Legendaries that we’ve seen to date).

So it sounds like allowing colored dyes will be a mountain of work for the development team, but hey…at least they’re looking into making that happen. 🙂

I think this is important, since the addition of equipment dye allows players some degree of customization and individuality – in terms of appearance anyway. With most 60s running around in a lot of the same Legendaries, it sort of diminishes the uniqueness in appearance that Blizz was striving for. By allowing Legendaries to accept any combination of the 20+ dyes currently available – this would allow more of us to at least think we’re special little snowflakes. 😉
